Story: A Cupcake Party
Genre: Fiction
Word family Words: Short
/u/ words and ending blends -ump: jump, must, bus, fun, sun, run
High Frequency Words: eat, give, one, put, small, take
Writing: Students will use a circle map to brainstorm, a tree-map to organize words and thoughts and writing 5 sentences on the topic. They will include a topic sentence and concluding statement. Grammar: Synonyms and Edit your work—Green for the capital letter that begins the sentence. Red for the punctuation mark that ends the sentence.

Math: Chapter 3—Addition Facts within 15.
Homework:
Monday: Write the
words in ABC order.
1. Write the word with pencil.
2. Trace the vowels with red crayon.
3. Trace the consonants with blue crayon.
Tuesday: Write 5 sentences using your word family words.
Wednesday: Write 5 sentences using your high frequency words.
Thursday: Write all your words 3 times each to study.

In Quarter 2—Children will be able to get a 4 on their spelling/high frequency word
test. Students will be dictated sentences with words that they have not studied,
but are a part of the Word Family above and previous high
frequency words learned on the word wall. IF all words are spelled correctly,
letters are formed correctly (no backwards letters) and the sentence is written with
correct punctuation and capital letters—Students will receive a 4 on their
test.

Week of Sept. 29th
Can you believe September is almost over? Wow! Time is flying in first grade.
This week we will begin book 2--Our story is a version of the well known "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"
Our story is called "Jack and the Wolf"

We are heading into the 6th week of school! Wow, time sure does fly.

Remember that Wednesday is an Early Dismissal at 2:00 p.m.
Thursday there is no school.
We will still be having our reading comprehension assessment, high frequency word/grammar and spelling test on Friday.
Flashlight Friday was a big hit! The kids really loved reading with the lights out and the flashlights on! The next Flashlight Friday will be on October 3rd.

This week we will be re-telling The Storm, building stamina in all areas of Daily 5 and beginning small reading groups.
Does your child have a book or books they are reading at home? If so, please send them in labeled with their name. Students choose what they read during Read to Self in Daily 5. Students will take the books home, when they have finished reading them.
