Updates and some Grinchy Cookies!

Good Morning Class and Parents,
I just wanted to post a few pics of what we have been doing in class.

We made a Snowman Glyph--to tell how we like to spend time in the snow.
Of course Snoopy and Charlie Brown helped!

Glyph Directions

Thank you Linus and Lucy!

and Woodstock too!

We practiced our sight words with our new sight word Watches!

The children made their own reindeer. They then told a story as if they were the reindeer, speaking in First Person.

Every story was different!

No 2 reindeer were alike. They were all special and different in their own unique way.

I was getting ready for our party last night. Baking up some yummy Grinchy Crinkle Cookies! Instead of termites in his teeth, The Grinch will have cookies!
I hope you are ready for these!!!

See you soon ,

Birthday Thanks! and POP!!!

Thank you to all the kids and parents who sent in cards, gifts and chocolate yummmm...

I loved the look on all the kids faces, as I opened everything.  It was so sweet of all you.

I wanted to share a new academic game we are using for sight words.  It's a super fun game--and super easy to make for your child.  All you need is popsicle sticks and a plastic cup.

You can find the craft sticks or popsicle sticks in any craft store or craft section of Walmart.

As your child learns new words you will write each word on a stick.  Place the sticks in the cup.  In addition to their High Frequency Words, write POP on a few sticks.

How to Play:
Player 1 picks a stick and says the word.  (if correct they keep the stick)
Player 2 picks a stick and says the word.
and on the process goes..... Until someone picks POP!  If you pick the POP stick, you must put all your sticks back in the cup.  Each week you can add the new words from our word list.  They can review old words, and learn the new words as well.

Hope you get a chance to play!

Math 120 Chart

Here's a great chart I found to help your children count to 100 and higher. You can use it for counting, patterns, adding and subtracting.  You should be able to down load this to your computer and print it.

Student Handbook

The Student Handbook came home today with your child. There is a  lot of information in the Handbook.  Some areas you might want to take a look at include:
  • New grading Policy K-2..................................p.3-4
  • Planners,  Homework, Progress Reports............p.21
  • Visitors, Tardies, and Dismissal Procedures........p.23
  • Parent Pick-up Procedures...............................p.24
  • Attendance Policies-Make-up Work...................p. 26-31
  • Dress Code....................................................p.32-34
  • Internet Policy................................................p.35

There are many other areas of interest in the Handbook as well.  Please look through it all and let me know if you have any questions.
I tabbed the page that needs to be signed and returned with your child to school.

Since this is the First week back, and many of the children are just getting back on a schedule, I will not start our regular Homework routine until next week.

Tomorrow (Tuesday August, 21st) a "Welcome Back" Back will be coming home as a homework assignment. Students are asked to fill the bag with 3-4 items that will tell about them. Please send this in as soon as you complete the assignment.

Thanks for a great first Day!!!
